Case Study – Living Spaces

From a Napkin Sketch
to a Fully Concealed
Work-From-Home Desk

Mechanical design, integrated lighting, power, ergonomics, and manufacturability,
designed to transform small living spaces into functional workstations.

Problem

During the pandemic, remote work turned homes into offices. Moxie Design needed to transform a rough wall-mounted desk sketch into a functional, manufacturable product featuring integrated lighting and power while maintaining a minimal, space-saving footprint.

Solution

C2S translated a rough concept into a fully engineered workstation featuring integrated LED lighting and an electric sit/stand riser. We prioritized safety and installation, delivering a manufacturable design while connecting the client with production partners.

Outcome

C2S delivered a fully market-ready workstation, transforming a rough sketch into professional production documentation. The client gained clear manufacturing pathways and a scalable, high-quality product ready for immediate commercial launch.

The Problem

During the COVID-19 pandemic, work-from-home became a reality for millions, forcing dining tables and shared living spaces to double as offices. Moxie Design saw an opportunity to create a wall-mounted desk that could disappear when not in use, making it ideal for apartments and bedrooms with limited space. However, their initial input was little more than a rough concept sketch.

The challenge was to transform this early idea into a safe, functional, and manufacturable product that integrated lighting, power, and ergonomics, without increasing footprint or complexity.

The Solution

C2S translated the rough concept into a fully engineered product using proven, readily available manufacturing methods. We designed a wall-mounted, fully concealable workstation featuring integrated ambient LED lighting housed in aluminum extrusions to softly wash the wall with light. The system incorporated an electric sit/stand riser and a flip-out work surface, all hidden behind clean, minimal doors when closed.

Safety, ease of use, and straightforward installation were core design drivers, resulting in a bracket-mounted system with leveling feet. The design also supported multiple finish options, giving the client flexibility to appeal to different market preferences. In parallel, C2S connected Moxie Design with appropriate manufacturers and distributors to support a smooth, efficient, and timely path to production.

The Outcome

C2S delivered a comprehensive and entirely market-ready concealed desk solution, meticulously guiding the project through every critical phase from the initial, rough concept sketch to finalized, high-fidelity production documentation.

Because of this rigorous engineering process, the client moved forward with a fully validated design, clearly defined manufacturing pathways, and the absolute technical confidence necessary to bring a complex product to a competitive market.

The final result was a sophisticated, compact, and modern work-from-home solution specifically engineered to integrate into real-world living spaces without compromise. Furthermore, the system was designed with the inherent flexibility to scale mass production and seamlessly expand aesthetic finish options as consumer demand and market trends continue to evolve over time.
